June (Music Director, Soprano)

I am June, the "music mastermind" of Sounds Easy, having planned and arranged the group’s repertoire since its inception five years ago. My selections and arrangements for Sounds Easy reflect the group’s aims to present a cappella pieces that are personal, have influences from both the East and West, and contain tunes that are familiar to most people. While not arranging or singing for the group,I work as a full-time researcher in education, and a part-time piano accompanist of ballet technique classes. Previously,I was a music teacher, and a choral conductor in a few schools.
I value the opportunity to sing and perform with the singers in Sounds Easy, and hope that their enthusiasm and passion to entertain and sing will continue burning in the many years to come.

Celina (Mezzo Soprano)

Hi, I am Celina, and am the the youngest member in the group. Before joining Sounds Easy, I was a mezzo soprano from my junior college choir and took vocal class from a local pop singing school. I enjoyed singing with Sounds Easy - they are fun to work with, and their kindness and warmth always make practices enjoyable. Apart from singing with Sounds Easy, I am a devout Christian, a Chemistry undergraduate and a soloist with a jam band from my university.

Jeslyn ( Mezzo Soprano, Alto)

I joined my Primary school choir back in 1991 as I was curious then. ;D The positive experience sealed my fate for the next 16 years (and possibly more) - I sung in the choirs in my secondary school, junior college, and my university hall choir.

I joined Sounds Easy during my university days and I never looked back. Singing can never be more fun than with Sounds Easy! As one of the pioneer members of Sounds Easy, I saw the group grow and change from 20-strong ensemble to a cosy a cappella group. This saw changes in group dynamics, but the enthusiasm of the group has never waned. Not only are we partners in songs,Sounds Easy's members are also partners in life. I believe it’s the strong bond among us as well as the love of singing that bind us together. Furthermore, I also feel that life should not be about work and mundane stuffs (Lolx). Singing in Sounds Easy gets me motivated in life, as I am constantly trying out new arrangements and genres.

Claire (Alto)

An introduction of myself ah...... Okiez! Here goes! *ahem* I'm Claire, one of the singers in Sounds Easy *duh*, and I sing Alto. You can visit http://cangying.blogspot.com/ if you happened to be interested in my hobbies and what activities I'm involved in *thick-skinned*. As for now, I guess I'll talk more about what my blog doesn't say about me *grin*.

Let's see... I started learning classical piano at the age of 10, but stopped when I'm in polytechnic after I failed the Grade 8 exams. So if you use your fingers and toes to count, I actually took nUmeRoUs years to reach Grade 8 *I can't believe it*. Anyway, I guess my love for singing grew from then. I listen, mostly, to songs by Sammi Cheng (郑秀文) and Cheer Chen (陈绮贞) and *shy* my ambition is to be like them *inspired*. So I took up basic singing lessons (in the neighbourhood) but stopped when I started working *busy busy*. My encounter with Sounds Easy started when I was studying in NTU. As the distance between my home *east* and campus *west* is beyond my *very little* tolerance, I stayed in hostel for my study period. We had to change rooms every year, so to keep the room that we want, we had to join ECAs to accumulate points. Of course, I chose the activities that I liked and I only joined those *proud*. One of the activities was hall (our way of saying hostel) choir, and it was from there that I got to know one of the singers, Jeslyn. She was the one who introduced Sounds Easy to me, and so *like an ah-ma telling stories* my adventures with Sounds Easy began. You may ask, why did I join Sounds Easy ~? Honestly, I don't know what the other reason(s) was/were, I only know that I joined because I wanted to sing, and maybe because I want to experience singing with a community singing group ?~ I look forward to going for practice every week, because I can be without stress *except singing* with everyone. No matter how bad the day/week was, I will always feel happier when I think of going for practices. Addicted ~? Maybe.

By the way, I forgot to mention that I'm also in-charge of Sounds Easy's marketing matters. So if you are interested to engage us for your event, please feel free to contact us by either our email or my personal email at claire44(at)gmail(dot)com.

Yanxing (Tenor, Baritone)

I am Yanxing and am a tenor with Sounds Easy. I came to like choral singing after joining my school choir during my junior college years. My love for singing and the support from some of my ex-choir mates prompted us to form Sounds Easy after we graduated. The group is currently housed under the Ulu Pandan Community Cente, and we are fortunate to enjoy strong support from the centre. Apart from singing, I am also involved in Sounds Easy's financial and administrative matters .

Haoren (Bass)

I am Haoren, and am the bass for Sounds Easy. Music has always been a part of my life. Before I came to Singapore for my university education,I had ten years of choral singing experience, having been involved in choirs of my primary and secondary schools in Malaysia. During this period, I won a prize during a singing competition. Apart from choral training, I was also trained in piano and pop guitar.

As part of hostel life in university, we were required to join activities, and given my past experiences, I was naturally led to join my hall choir. It was in the choir that I got to know my wife, Jeslyn, who later introduced me to Sounds Easy. Through practices, I realized that I still have a lot more to learn with regard to singing, such as aspects of music theory, breath and diaphragm control. ( I admit I had to “smoke” over sometimes when the parts were difficult...*phew* -_-’’’… haha…) . It was interesting learning new songs with Sounds Easy-apart from mastering my own part, I also got to listen and sometimes learn other parts too.
